Following Nestlé bold statement on January 15th that struck a huge chord, we are now seeing first results. This is what was outlined which all other corporates should heed: “100% recyclability is not enough to successfully tackle the plastics waste crisis. We need to push the boundaries and do more. We are determined to look at every option to solve this complex challenge and embrace multiple solutions that can have an impact now. We believe in the value of recyclable and compostable paper-based materials and biodegradable polymers, in particular where recycling infrastructure does not exist.”
We also learned that Nestlé has opened a new R&D Centre in Lausanne where they are recruiting packaging and materials experts as well as linking to prominent academics in the field of materials and processes. They are making a GENUINE commitment.
By the end of 2019 we will see #PlasticFree Smarties but first out of the gate is Nesquik.
The new pouch is made of a coated paper that is recyclable in the paper stream. The paper is from sustainable sources, certified by the Forest Stewardship Council (FSC). The pouches have been extensively tested to make sure they keep the Nesquik powder in perfect condition during transport and storage.
