Most ever lose health insurance
More Americans lost health insurance coverage due to job losses this spring — 5.4 million — than have ever lost coverage in a single year, according to a study by nonpartisan Families USA. From February to May, as the coronavirus forced business shutdowns, the number of uninsured adults surged 40% above the level seen during the entire Great Recession. While federal data won’t be available until next year, some groups estimate far higher numbers when including family members of the insured.
