More insecurity over Social Security
Younger generations are increasingly concerned that Social Security won't be there by the time they retire, according to a new survey by AARP. Overall findings show 57% of respondents say they aren't confident in the program's future, with 72% of 30- to 49-year-olds worrying that their benefits won't be enough to get by on. Other surveys taken during the pandemic-induced economic slowdown show similar findings. In the wake of President Donald Trump's executive action calling for a payroll tax deferral, AARP's CEO sent a letter seeking an explanation on how he would replace Social Security funding.
