Kids aren't lovin' McDonald's toys

Not work related at all, but this is my son’s letter to McDonalds complaining about their plastic toys. One very proud dad - come on McDonalds! #plasticfree #stopplasticpollution

I have a balanced point of view when it comes to the plastic debate. I do not think that replacing all plastic with paper alternatives is the right answer. However one thing I am for is getting rid of the plastic rubbish put into kids meals! I have literally seen kids throw the toy away without taking it out of the plastic bag. Macdonalds have Ipads in them these days, I am sure the kids are more interested in that than a plastic figure. They were quick enough to turn the straws to paper. Get rid of these plastic monstrocities now!

These inspirational young girls have created a petition to stop these toys being given out and want a sustainable solution, in their words 'It’s not enough to make recyclable plastic toys - big, rich companies shouldn’t be making toys out of plastic at all.' Tonight’s we will be on BBC ONE's War on Plastic at 9 pm. the Bywaters MRF (Materials Recovery Facility) will be making its debut on the programme with tonight's episode focusing on plastic toys, in particular, the toys in McDonald's Happy Meals. Shockingly McDonald's is the largest toy distributor in the world, most of the toys being made from plastic. McDonald's claim that the toys can be recycled however they cannot be recycled in our conventional recycling stream, which is where they end up. When we took part in the filming we arranged for these toys to be collected from the MRF over a short period of time to see what we were dealing with, sadly we even found some of the McDonalds toys still in their plastic packaging! We live in an exciting era where we can incite change with the knowledge we have to hand and this is a huge step in the right direction. Tune in tonight to learn more!
