Instagram takes a swipe at YouTube
Instagram announced Wednesday that it will allow users to post longer videos, pitting the social media app against YouTube when it comes to video dominance, reports TechCrunch. Videos of up to an hour’s length will be enabled through a new section called IGTV, which will also be offered as a stand-alone app over coming weeks. Instagram says it has 1 billion monthly users, while YouTube says it has 1.9 billion monthly users, reports The New York Times. As younger audiences turn away from traditional television, Instagram is following the trend by trying to attract “new stars of today’s digital video world,” per the Times — young, social media personalities who have built cult followings on channels such as YouTube.
