Great Hill Partners will acquire Gizmodo Media Group and The Onion from Univision Communications, ending the Spanish-language media company’s ownership of English-language websites. While no deal price has been disclosed by the companies, the hedge fund is expected to pay much less than the $135 million Univision paid for the websites in 2016, reports The Wall Street Journal, citing anonymous sources. Gizmodo Media Group sites include Jezebel, Earther and The Root.

I was a part of the team on the initial fire-sale that worked to integrate these and a couple of other brands into the executional side and it was a fun project to work through with some really great people and partners. I think folks get caught up in the want to buy companies and do deals and not all the time are the strategies thought through beyond the sexy part of doing a deal.
