Gender gap doesn't spare boardroom

The Swaddle has published an extremely interesting article (drawing upon an HBR article) on the impact a woman can make in boardrooms. Having a woman on board has the following positive impact: Tempers male CEO overconfidence; Return on acquisitions made by companies with female leadership, are 2% higher than those made by men; Interestingly, the researchers concluded that companies with female board members, fared better during the 2008 financial crisis; Both in India and globally, the % of women in Boards is very low. Indian women hold just 12.4% of board seats and a meager 3.2% of board chairs as of 2017. Clearly, there is a need for greater diversity on boards and while there are legal mandates under the law, it is best for organizations to follow best practices and increase the % of women on it’s boards. Not just in workforce, but Women representation in higher management levels in India lags too, and is below global average- a matter of grave concern: 15.2% on Boards, 2% at CEO level, 1% at CFO level. Women in middle and higher management are much needed as mentors, role-models, for reorienting organisations' cultures & HR practices towards #gender sensitization. More talk than than action here!
