Italy bridge deaths rise to 43
The number of dead from Tuesday's bridge collapse in Genoa, Italy, has risen to 43, the AP reports. President Sergio Mattarella demanded guarantees that all the country's roads were safe. Prosecutors are investigating whether possible design flaws were to blame for the collapse while the bridge operator has offered to build a new bridge in eight months. The government meanwhile has said it would revoke the bridge operator's concession to operate any of the country's roads. The Morandi Bridge accident occurred on a major motorway connecting the country to France. At least 20 cars on the bridge plunged off, and people in office buildings under the bridge were also injured, The Associated Press reported.
