I feel like this story comes out in a different publication on a weekly basis. #SanFrancisco #housing prices are so high almost 30,000 residents moved out of the Bay Area last year. If you’re not in the #tech scene making $300k+ you simply can’t afford to stay. #Sacramento is the top in-state destination while #Seattle is the top out of state city (I’ve lived in both). #California has nine of the top ten most expensive rental markets in the country, six of which are in the Bay Area. Last year, 38,000 more people left the Golden State than moved in and some surveys show more than half of current residents are considering leaving (63% of #millennials) because of cost of living issues. Will this state ever get its act together and deliver more housing?

The growing #CentralValleyTech talent base will play a key role in attracting tech companies to the affordable Central Valley. Even if the Bay Area could build 500K new housing units, the infrastructure there wouldn't be able to handle the resulting traffic nightmare. I’m not buying that google and such companies are getting into the land game due to altruism or “being a good neighbor“ as the article contends. I think we risk heading back to “company towns” that we saw a few generations ago. # #realestate #housing

I'm genuinely impressed by this move. Hats off to all the changemakers involved in this process, from the grassroots activists that fought for community to the internal advocates that turned this ambitious ask into reality. This is where Diversity, Equity & Inclusion starts--when companies recognize that their presence itself has impacts on communities and take steps to become a positive influence.
