Good to see we have resisted the urge to go with ￡1.25p price points as I believe strongly that will be interpreted to customers as marking up old ￡1 products for the sake of availability on old stock, Which is not the case! The chain billed the move as switching from being a “single price” to a “simple price” retailer. The higher price points mean it can stock bigger packs of washing powder, grocery and toiletry brands that sell in huge quantities in rival supermarkets. It is not the first time that the near 30-year-old retailer has tinkered with its formula. Two years ago it started selling products priced at ￡2 and ￡5 and bargain hunters could find 50p products as “manager’s specials”.
