Australia's official jobless rate has dropped, surprising experts. Australian Bureau of Statistics data shows the national unemployment rate fell from 7.5% in July to 6.8% in August. While employment dropped overall by 413,000 roles since March, the number of people counted as 'unemployed' only increased by 200,000. In the same period, 70,000 part-time jobs were created, leading some experts to suggest many are giving up the job hunt, or are underemployed in part-time work. Australia's recession is expected to impact job availability for months to come.
