Do tattoos hurt job prospects?
The jury is out on whether body art hurts job applicants, according to two competing studies cited in Quartz. Researchers at the University of Miami and the University of Western Australia Business School found that tattooed and non-tattooed applicants had similar job prospects, but they could not determine whether this was due to a shift in perceptions by employers over time. Another study by a professor at Colorado State University found that tattooed (or those with body piercings) applicants were offered lower starting salaries than those without — unless the hiring manager also had body art — and were less likely to be hired.
