Canada wants UN Security Council seat
Prime Minister Justin Trudeau will this week push for Canada to have a seat on the UN Security Council. Trudeau will tout Canada’s commitment to female education and measures to address climate change which The Globe and Mail says are “attractive priorities for many countries that Canada is seeking support from” in its bid for one of the 10 rotating, non-permanent seats on the Security Council in 2021-22. Trudeau’s three-day visit to the UN General Assembly in New York begins today, where he will give a speech to the Nelson Mandela Peace Summit.
