Brazil rejects G7 aid for the Amazon
Brazil's government says it will turn down a roughly $20 million offer of aid for combatting fires in the Amazon rainforest. G7 leaders had committed to help battle the blazes and launch an initiative to protect the forest on Monday at their summit in Biarritz, France. President Bolsonaro said the offer made his country look like "a colony or no man's land." The country's National Space Research Institute recorded 76,720 wildfires in the forest this year — up 85% since 2018.
