A Bush family spokesman announced the news on Twitter with a statement that described Bush as a "relentless proponent of family literacy." Barbara Bush was one of two women in U.S. history to have served as both First Lady and First Mother. She is survived by her husband of 73 years, former President George H.W. Bush, who is 93 years old; five children; 17 grandchildren; and seven great grandchildren. In a statement, former President George W. Bush said, "I'm a lucky man that Barbara Bush was my mother." A statement issued by former President Bill Clinton and Secretary of State Hillary Clinton described Bush as "a remarkable woman" who "had grit and grace, brains and beauty."
