Asda is to stop selling single kitchen knives by the end of April amid rising concerns about UK knife crime. Nick Jones, Asda senior vice-president, said the company had "a responsibility to support the communities we serve". The supermarket chain will continue to sell multipacks of knives. Poundland announced last year that it would remove kitchen knives from all stores. At least 39 people have been killed in stabbings in the UK this year.

Any retailers efforts to remove single kitchen knives are with good intentions however; would someone who wishes to purchase a knife for the purpose of harm not just then simply buy a multi-pack?......Surely better to tackle the route causes which lay in society and/or by contributing to community projects that target these issues. Removal of single knives will do little if anything to prevent.
