Amazon employees want climate action

“Amazon has the resources and scale to spark the world’s imagination and redefine what is possible and necessary to address the climate crisis.” Amazon truly has the ability to move markets. I’m optimistic that - with enough voices from inside the company, from customers, and from shareholders - we can nudge Amazon to move these markets in the right direction for our future generations and our planet.

Amazon employees are taking action to accelerate their company's fight against climate change. Coming at such a visible company, this will set an example others will follow around the corporate world. And then this happend... For anyone looking for evidence that sustainability is critical to talent attraction and retention, check out this fascinating open letter, petitioning Jeff Bezos and Amazon to take urgent leadership on combating climate change signed by over 3500 employees. It's worth remembering that in some industries as high as 95% of a companies climate impacts are in their supply-chain - so if the world's largest company and marketplace decides to take urgent action on climate change - you can bet this would have an immediate impact on a significant number of the world's businesses. This petition should be seen as call to action for all businesses - if you're in business, you're now in the business of sustainability.

Yet another employee movement. Take two things away from this growing trend: 1) employees want their organizations to care about the things they care about and 2) when employees feel that their organizations don't care about those things, they are able (easier than ever) to synchronize their views and take collective action

I've spoken about Patagonia in my videos before. I'm always impressed by their courage to activate their brand purpose in everything they do. This latest move is POWERFUL, as well as kinda hilarious. It's the act of an authentic, fearless brand that's okay walking away from potential revenue to live its truths.
