Advertising hit hard by coronavirus

The advertising industry is already taking a hit due to the coronavirus and is likely to enter a recession, according to a report by industry body Warc. Europe’s largest broadcaster RTL Group has warned of a decline in ad revenues and ITV has scrapped forecasts due to a drop in advertising, particularly among travel firms. Though brands are slashing ad spends, there is one brighter spot the research highlights: with demand for food and hygiene products rising, fast moving consumer goods brands – and their advertising spends – may prove more resilient than other sectors.
