Its planning process is supposed to lay out the more concrete steps year by year and quarter by quarter to get there.
However, often the two processes are running in silos, and companies plan for activity without it being the needed recipe for strategic success.
In fact, the plans show up on the chart as a hairy back of ambitions never reached when the actuals come in.
This disconnect is one of the key factors behind most strategies failing.
