What is Guerilla Marketing?
Guerilla marketing is a way to drive publicity and, as a result, brand awareness by promoting using unconventional methods designed to evoke surprise, wonder, or shock. It is an advertisement strategy in which a company uses surprise and/or unconventional interactions to promote a product or service. It is a type of publicity.
So we students of Track 4 MBA degree (Distance learning) of NMIMS CDOE were given activity by Prof. Dr. Deepak R. Gupta on Guerrilla Marketing. Below are a few examples of unique Guerilla Marketing strategies by companies all over the world. These images have been taken from various websites but the content is original.
1. XXL Condom Promotion
Durex has used creative guerrilla marketing techniques to promote its XXL Condom Promotion. Now, what is the logic of promoting this in the toilet? Excuse me toilet is used.... ! It is a secret. I hope you understand.
2. BBC's Dracula Billboard
When I saw this gif image, I wondered why is this shadow shown. Then my creative mind said to me, Dracula is the devil and there is also a novel on it. It looks the same on the cover page as it is. This is a very creative way to show Dracula on Billboard.

3. Bounty's Giant Popsicle
"Makes small work of Big Spills." I don't know what the fundamental objective of this ad is, but if I was in the place of the man who is eating it, I would have tried to pick it up and take it with me at my home. The social message that the company wants to give is to Identify the biggest problem that your product or service solves. Then, find an unconventional way to broadcast that to the public -- preferably without words.
4. UNICEF?
Almost 9 years ago?UNICEF?used started selling dirty water on the streets of New York City by setting up a vending machine. It was a part of their Guerrilla Marketing. They were trying to create awareness about the water quality issue around the city. Interestingly, people were paying 1$ to see what came out of the vending machine (later that money was donated for good cause). Later, UNICEF’s campaign was successful in creating awareness regarding polluted water. UNICEF has used many creative marketing strategies to create awareness of polluted water.??
5. Discovery Channel
Discovery Channel was celebrating Shark Week and given that, they had kept bitten boars on the beach.
To conclude,
The above creatives are unique. They are very different from the posts you see on social media like Facebook, Instagram, or YouTube. Now, these images are stored in my mind and I won't forget them because they are not only promoting products but also giving a social message. With the help of such marketing strategies, the company can show their objective behind launching or selling the product or service.
