Have you been selected to contribute to a Collaborative article? Of course, you have. ? Yes, you’re an expert. And if you contribute enough, you’ll even get a yellow Top Voice award ??on your profile to prove it. ? But before you start feeling all the loved-up feelings about LinkedIn (who doesn’t enjoy a bit of flattery from time to time?), I’m going to burst your bubble. ? I’m sorry. Truly. Because some of my favourite people like their yellow badges. But hear me out. ? LinkedIn seems, well, clearly desperate to get people to contribute. Contrary to how it appears, this isn’t some exclusive thing reserved for the best and brightest… In reality, LinkedIn are selecting thousands of people. More worryingly though, they are using flattery to get you to hand over your intellect, your trade secrets, and the lessons that only decades of hard-won experience can give you. ? And once LinkedIn have got it, they’re likely using it to train their large language model (LLM). ? I know I sound like a conspiracy theorist. I’m really not. I just ask you before you agree to contribute, to pause and think about your future. ? Currently, people who pay for Premium get AI’s help in improving their writing. ? But imagine what LinkedIn will be like when AI pulls from all the knowledge those contributors have shared? What will it be like when LinkedIn enables anyone to look like a genuine expert? ? I think we can all agree that’s not the future we want. ? Of course, it’s totally up to you. Contribute if you choose. But do it knowing the dog you feed today, might bite you tomorrow. ? P.S. If you’ve expertise and interest in the future of AI, there is a link to $4M in research grants available (deadline Sept 15th) in the comments. ????????????????????????????
