Still trying to process the announcement this morning that BP made £23,000,000,000 profits last year whilst we at Manchester Youth Zone ran winter emergency campaigns to give people enough energy on their meter to provide small bursts of warmth in the very hardest of days. At what point do we say enough is enough- we will put people before profits, we care more about health and well-being of our communities above global companies profit margins. I invite senior leads at bp and Shell (£32b profits posted for 2022) to come and talk to our children and families and look at the devastating impact pricing decisions have had in their lives - and learn how despite all they are navigating they care about others, their communities and the environment. Come and learn.. #socialinequalities #wideningthegap #socialaction #communities Edit: Well that sparked a larger debate than I expected - most reactions I ever get is a couple of hundred - which I guess shows how important this debate is to society. I’ve learnt loads from all of you, from both the challengers and supporters - thank you! I’m turning comments off because I think we’ve probably shared the widest possible range of perspectives and I’ve reached my social media comfort zone with this one. Any chance we get to look at the impact of our decisions on the most under-served is really important so I really appreciate the engagement. Update: BP have reached out to talk - which is really appreciated and looking forward to the opportunity to a constructive dialogue.
