On St. Patrick’s Day– and every day– we love green. Over the years, we have had the opportunity to work on many green building projects, including the Exhibit at J Town Apartments in San Jose, CA. This LEED-Platinum development was designed as a sustainable community, featuring high-efficiency construction, solar panels, and smart landscaping components. The community has 97-units, common areas, a vehicle lift system, sky deck, clubhouse, green areas, and more. Equally impressive, Exhibit at J Town features a 25-foot crape myrtle tree. This over 30-year-old tree blossoms into pink flowers beginning in the spring until early fall. Due to the height of the tree and the power lines surrounding the property, teams had to transport the tree by first placing it on palettes and then angling it to fit underneath the power lines. The entire transplant process took under one day to complete.

Our Foothill Village project in Salt Lake City recently welcomed a one-day visitor to the site: a crane with a 210-foot reach. Getting an 11,000-pound electrical vault to its new home adjacent to houses and a park is no easy task. The Foothill Village Redevelopment project team was faced with this challenge in mid-February. Through careful planning, the team employed this crane to lift the electrical vault over those homes and a chapel, carrying the vault to its final installation spot. The entire process–including setting up and removing the crane–was completed in one day, around eight hours. Our Director of HSE oversaw the safe installation of this electrical vault.

Our Vice President of Preconstruction, Eric Calder, participated in Utah Business and Dentons Durham Jones Pinegar’s roundtable on construction sustainability, mental health, and education in 2025. In speaking about technologies within the industry, Calder explained, “It’s exciting to see technology in construction; it’s here to stay. There are a lot of robust opportunities for it to grow. One thing we need to remember is that it’s key to think of the fundamentals of the information we’re providing. We’ve got to be really good at the information we put into the systems that we use. If we don’t have [good] information for [AI] to draw upon, it isn’t as useful as it could be.” Learn more about this roundtable in February’s issue of Utah Business.

Just over a year ago, we turned over the Lone Peak Parkway Office Building, a beautiful addition to Draper City. This Class-A office building features high-end finishes including four-by-four foot tiles on the floors, unique light fixtures, and custom cabinetry. Spanning all three stories is a granite motif, found on countertops and tabletops, staircases, and walls. The office holds several conference rooms, offices, workrooms, breakrooms, and a top-floor balcony. The plans called for several 2,000-pound granite slabs to be installed, which required the teams to carefully pass the slabs through the top-floor balcony doors at delivery.?#ProjectHighlight

With deep sadness, we share the passing of our friend and former colleague, Dennis Phelps, who passed away peacefully last week. Those who knew Dennis would describe him as a friend to all, kind, and good. He worked at our company for about ten years, proudly driving his truck around our construction sites to keep them safe. A hard worker and full of integrity, Dennis made our company a better place. We are grateful for his influence in our lives. We express our heartfelt condolences to the family and friends of Dennis Phelps. Dennis will be missed dearly.
