?? When a Failed BI Project Sparks Unexpected Success In my experience, sometimes a failed project can lead to something even more impactful. I was once part of a large BI initiative aimed at creating an enterprise-wide dashboard network and self-service analytics tools. We built almost 100 dashboards, hoping to give every team easy access to valuable insights. But despite our best efforts, the adoption rate was low. Many teams and departments preferred to stick with their existing methods and tools, and the executive-level support for the BI initiative waned. The project was ultimately shelved as a failure. ?? But here’s where it gets interesting: Instead of abandoning BI altogether, many teams saw its value and started building their own, tailored BI solutions. These decentralized projects weren’t part of the original roadmap, but they filled the specific needs of each department. And they worked! ?? What began as a failed enterprise-wide BI initiative organically evolved into a distributed BI network, where each department had its own set of tools and dashboards. While there wasn’t a single "source of truth," the company’s BI capabilities flourished in ways that a one-size-fits-all approach never could. Today, we are continuing to work with the company to support and enhance this distributed BI network, ensuring that every team and department has the tools and support they need to drive insights and better outcomes. ??
