Zuckerberg San Francisco General Hospital and Trauma Center recently welcomed 73 nutrition students and staff from Seitoku University in Japan! They got an inside look at how our incredible Food & Nutrition Services (FNS) team nourishes patients, staff, and visitors. ??? The students toured our two kitchens, the NICU, the Acute Care for Elderly unit, and our emergency food storage—stocked and ready to support our hospital community in a disaster. Every day, our FNS team:? ? Prepares 1,000+ meal trays for hospitalized patients? ? Provides meal service for Behavioral Health Center residents? ? Serves three hot meals in the café? ? Our Registered Dietitians (RDs), Dietetic Technicians, and Registered (DTRs) deliver Medical Nutrition Therapy to support patients' health, while nurses, RDs, and DTRs screen all patients for food insecurity at admission—connecting them with Social Workers and Patient Navigators to find food resources in the community. Today, Mayor Daniel Lurie appointed Daniel Tsai as the Director of Health for the San Francisco Department of Public Health. Tsai has nearly two decades of health care leadership experience and was appointed by President Biden in 2021 to lead the nation’s Medicaid program at the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS). Tsai was accountable for advancing greater health care coverage, access and health for 80 million people in the U.S. We are excited to have his leadership and expertise at #SFPublicHealth.
