How do we build a resilient AND decentralized public health system that will support the health of all Americans? My co-panelists Brandon Talley, PhD, MPH of CDC Foundation, J.T. Lane of Association of State and Territorial Health Officials and Matthew Christiansen MD MPH of Valley Health and the West Virginia First Foundation agree: we need multi-industry, multi-state and multi-stakeholder engagement. And what's the fastest path toward system failure? Waiting around and assuming status quo. Thanks to humble ventures and Doceree for inviting us to speak at the #SXSW Future of Health Day. And thank you to our amazing moderator Leslie Kirk.

Congratulations to Zorya Foundation board member Nora Cox on this special honor. ??
Last week, I received one of the greatest honors of my personal and professional career. I was made a "namesake" of the Texas A&M Telehealth Institute, which is run by my dear friend and colleague Carly McCord. My name is on a booth in the Institute that will be used to deliver mental health services to Texans in need, many of whom would otherwise not access services at all. I met Carly when she was just beginning her doctoral work, and from the very start I knew she would accomplish great things. As we have collaborated over the years, I've been impressed by her big heart, which is matched only by her capacity to dream big and then make it happen. I hope you can tell by the picture of me looking at her that I think she's a phenomenal human being, and I can't wait to see what the next decade holds for the two of us. It was an honor to deliver the keynote speech at the ribbon cutting ceremony, and I will cherish my namesake statue of Miss Rev for the rest of my life. Big thanks also to Michael Lemnitzer and Dustin Appel for their photography skills and moral support.

Support the causes you believe in, even when others do not. Innsena donated 16% of our 2024 profits and donated 671 recorded hours of staff time to charitable causes. I'm very open on the internet that I'm a capitalist. BECAUSE, when you have money, you can fund the things you care about. As is the case for Leslie and me and the Innsena team, it's funding on-the-ground scrappy organizations who are making a real impact in the communities around them. While we do sometimes fund larger initiatives, like we did with CancerX last year as its largest financial supporter, we prefer finding people out in the wild who are doing what we have done with our businesses: built something you've dreamed about for a long time from scratch, cooking with the ingredients you have, and when you win--giving back as much as possible. Our favorites? One is Project Hope for Women and Children, a part of the Marshall Health Network in Huntington, WV, aka the City of Solutions. We now sponsor TWO apartments for this incredible program offering support for women and their children as they walk on the path toward recovery from opioid use disorder. We are honored to be a very small part of the team alongside Lyn O'Connell, Ph.D, LMFT, Jan Rader, Sonia Chambers and basically the whole city. And this year we're proud to support Boston Community Pediatrics, founded by Dr. Robyn Riseberg. Robyn's organization is the first nonprofit, pediatric private practice of its kind in Massachusetts. She founded the practice to actually DEMONSTRATE what equity in pediatric care looks like. She believes all of Boston’s children deserve to be healthy – not just those whose parents can afford it. Thank you to Darshak Sanghavi for introducing us to BCP. We're proud to amplify their efforts. And of course, our team continues to support Zorya Foundation's mission to keep healthcare workers in the workforce by providing cash childcare grants. I also donate a large portion of my own income to Zorya and donate all of my non-Innsena time running it as its founder and CEO. As Leslie's post detailed yesterday, our team supports organizations in climate and health, reducing recidivism, supporting childcare for healthcare workers, maternal and infant health and mental health. Do you see that I typed in keywords above that might get a government program DOGE'd overnight? Yes, but it doesn't matter, because we are private citizens at a private company supporting initiatives we care about--and God Bless America, we are free. I suggest you all do the same. Being able to direct your money WHERE YOU WANT is one of the beautiful things about our country--if we all do the right thing instead of buying yachts, or whatever. But that attitude starts with you. Lead by example. "Unless someone like you cares a whole awful lot, nothing is going to get better. It's not." - Dr. Suess

This article shared recently by RWJF underscores a crucial truth: diverse healthcare workforces lead to better patient outcomes, greater trust in the system, and stronger communities. This is especially true for safety net clinics, which statistically serve higher populations of minority patients. Yet, systemic barriers still prevent many from entering and staying in the field—including high childcare costs and burnout that lead to career attrition. At Zorya Foundation, we see this firsthand. The applicants of our childcare grants supporting safety net providers reflect the diverse future of healthcare. In fact, in our most recent 2024 full-year grant program: ?? 46% of applicants identified as Black/African American ?? 30% identified as Hispanic ?? 15% identified as White ?? 7% identified as Asian We remain committed to breaking down barriers for women in healthcare by providing critical support to help them remain in the workforce. Because when we invest in diverse healthcare professionals, we invest in better care for all.
