??Participating at the #CommissionontheStatusofWomen (CSW) at the United Nations Headquarters in #NewYork this week as a representative of Zonta International ?? ??CSW is the principal global intergovernmental body exclusively dedicated to the promotion of gender equality, the rights, and the empowerment of women and to discuss of progress and caps. This year’s theme is #BeijingDeclarationandPlatformforAction adopted in 1995, a comprehensive policy framework aimed at advancing women's rights and achieving gender equality globally. It is considered one of the most progressive #blueprints for women's empowerment. The CSW will be full of discussions, debates and networking – all of which is very much needed in the current sentiment of the world where #DEI #gendeequaility and women’s and girls rights are facing #pushback. #Civilsociety, which also Zonta International represents, is in the front line in building a better world for all. In addition to talks I am always after #action. Discussion is needed but after discussion we should really focus on taking actions. ??UN Secretary-General António Guterres emphasized in his opening remarks as well as in today’s’ Townhall meeting the ongoing challenges and progress in gender equality. He highlighted that despite significant advancements, women and girls still face violence, discrimination, and economic inequality. “The poison of patriarchy is back and back with a vengeance. But there is antidote and the antidote is action.” UN Secretary-General, I am ??with you! ?? ??Now it is time to both speak up but also take urgent actions. Zonta International is in #fullspeed forward and it is great to be here with a large number of #Zontians #advocating Zonta’s #mission about #endingviolenceagainstwomen, ensuring #climatejustice and #educationequality and to promote #womenindecisionmaking positions. #Onwards and #upwards! ?? This week, I am privileged to be at the 69th session of the Commission on the Status of Women (CSW69) at the United Nations Headquarters in New York, where global leaders, activists, and change-makers come together to drive progress toward gender equality and women's rights. As we approach the 30th anniversary of the Beijing Declaration and Platform for Action, it is a reminder that while we have made strides, there is still so much work to be done. The week began with an inspiring gathering of Zontarians at Pen + Brush, where President Salla Tuominen delivered a powerful welcome speech. Pen + Brush, a 130-year-old nonprofit, continues to champion gender equity in the arts, giving voice to women, non-binary, and female-identified transgender artists and writers in their fight for representation and real change. Why Zonta? Zonta International is dedicated to empowering women worldwide. We believe in taking action and creating a better world by tackling some of the most pressing challenges: ?? Ending Child Marriage – Nearly 650 million women alive today were married before turning 18. This must change. ?? Saying NO to Violence Against Women & Girls – 2 in 3 women have experienced physical or sexual violence from an intimate partner. We must do more. ?? Closing the Gender Gap in Education – Every additional year of primary school increases a girl's future earnings by 10-20%. Education is empowerment!
