Many doctors find reading PCR reports difficult as they are not accustomed to the newer technology and what it means, particularly with resistance genes. We can help you teach your physicians and train your team on how to explain the reports in an easy to understand way.
Which is a better lab test, PCR or culture? This week I had dinner with the management of the Palmetto MolDX program, and this topic came up. According to them, most PCR tests are not being reimbursed because there is no proof that PCR is better than culture. Their viewpoint is that PCR shows a 50% false positive rate in comparison to culture but I believe this is because PCR is a better test that detects things that culture misses (false negatives). The response was that until the lab industry proves that PCR is reliably better at detecting live pathogens that are impacting health and that the PCR diagnosis results in more effective treatment, it will not be reimbursed under MolDX. The evidence needs to be in the form of peer-reviewed medical journals and based on controlled studies. Once we are able to prove this as an industry, we will be able to make PCR testing the standard of care for infectious disease and get paid for it. The question now is, how do we get this done? As a medical community, we need to work together to conduct more controlled studies and publish our findings in peer-reviewed medical journals. This will provide the evidence needed to prove that PCR testing is indeed more effective than culture in only reporting relevant pathogens which result in more effective treatment. Once we have this evidence, we can make PCR testing the standard of care for infectious disease and get reimbursed for it under MolDX. Let's work together to make this happen and improve the standard of care for infectious disease. #pcr #culture #labtesting #moldx

We are already working with manufacturers to make this change as easy as possible for our clients. Will these new regulations affect you?
The FDA is taking over LDTs, with a 4 year roll out plan. How is this going to impact you and you lab? https://lnkd.in/eQtZBxQZ
