The folks who choose to work here as dishwashers, runners, line cooks, baristas, porters, chefs de cuisine, accountants, administrators, managing partners, and business founders all have unique perspectives we will bring to you—and we hope to hear from you as well! Today I’m super excited to share the latest publication from one of our founders, Ari Weinzweig “Life Lessons I Learned from Being a Line Cook” Of the new chapbook, Ari offers: "What began with learning how to flip burgers turned, slowly but surely, into a life philosophy. It took me years to realize it, but cooking on the line became, in its own way, the advanced degree my mother had hoped I’d return to school for. Line cooking opened the door for me to settle into a set of beliefs, values, and worldviews that underlie everything I’ve written and done in leadership work over the years." Ari’s new chapbook is a concentrated in-an-espresso-shot-sort-of-way effort to share over four decades of experience and learning. The small booklet’s format—with a beautifully illustrated cover by Ian Nagy—makes it perfect for sticking in a pocket or a shoulder bag as well as a great stocking stuffer for the holiday season. It’s a quick read that, Ari hopes, will be an insightful inspiration for people working in pretty much any walk of life, from those in search of a positive life path of their own to those who are already well along on their own. Ari is also the author of over a dozen books and pamphlets. Excited to share that we are now hiring for a Staff Accountant at Zingerman's Delicatessen! We are an organization managed under the philosophy of?Open Book Management.?This means that we encourage all of our staff to understand the key financial numbers and we share the information lavishly.?The main responsibility of a Zingerman's Staff Accountant is to support the Zingerman’s Community of Businesses (ZCoB) with daily/weekly/monthly accounting tasks, cash handling, monthly financial reports/reviews, analytics and historical context surrounding annual planning and quarterly forecasting, teaching financial literacy to our staff, and more. This position is typically 40-45 hours per week at an annual salary of $70,000 - $75,000, depending on experience.?The position has some flexibility in work hours and days, but a typical schedule would be 8:30am-4:30pm or 9am-5pm, Monday through Friday. The position reports directly to Zingerman’s Restaurant Accounting Manager and will work closely with the Managing Partners and leadership teams of their supported businesses.
