Thank you, Allegheny Conference on Community Development, for volunteering with us last Friday! With the help of your amazing team of five, we were able to unbox and set up over 15 mini-fridges, assemble multiple beds, and take care of some light cleaning. We truly appreciate your support and the impact you've made!

Wow! The Big Share was definitely a night to remember! The night was filled with raffle baskets, delicious food from @blackradishpgh, homemade cookies, and the Second Annual Phil Pappas Award presentation. Above all else- the night was filled with community. Together, we gathered in support of our Food Pantry which over 5,500 families and individuals with supplemental foods annually. Coming together for a night of fun is special, but coming together to support our neighbors is truly meaningful. A heartfelt thank you to everyone who showed up and a special shoutout to our top-tier level sponsors, UPMC, UPMC Health Plan, and Pennsylvania Libations, your commitment to CHS is making a lasting impact on our participants.

Today, on World Homelessness Day, we recognize and celebrate the incredible work our team does every single day to fight homelessness and break down the stigma surrounding it. Our dedicated Shelter team supports up to 140 program participants at a time throughout multiple sites, helping individuals set goals, secure employment, and achieve long-term, safe, and affordable housing. As we head into the holiday season, we’re excited to share how our neighbors can get involved and support our Shelter Department. Together, we can make an even greater impact by providing a sense of independence and resources to those who need it most during this special time of year. Stay tuned for ways you can help!

Last week, we stood together in silence to honor the 3,100+ children experiencing homelessness right here in Allegheny County. This moment was part of the Homeless Children's Education Fund's YOU CAN! Campaign, raising awareness during Homeless Children's Awareness Month. Together, let’s continue to advocate, support, and work toward a future where every child has a place to call home.

#ThrowbackThursday to last year’s The Big Share, our largest annual fundraiser that supports CHS' Oakland Food Pantry. In Pennsylvania, 12.5% of the population is experiencing food insecurity, and within the City of Pittsburgh, that number rises to 21%. Two years ago, we saw a surge in need following the reduction of SNAP benefits, but this past year, the impact has been compounded by other economic factors. The cost of living, especially groceries, has skyrocketed. While long-term solutions to food insecurity require systemic change, our neighbors need resources now. CHS' Oakland Food Pantry has been, and will continue to be, a lifeline within the community—providing fresh fruits and vegetables, dairy, non-perishables, and meat or fish options to those in need. This year’s The Big Share will be held on October 4th at Tree Pittsburgh, with proceeds directly funding our food pantry. Our goal is to raise $60,000—and with your help, we can make it happen!
