Today, March 25th, we recognize Medal of Honor Day, a time to reflect on the bravery and sacrifice of those who have earned our nation’s highest military award for valor. Last week, we had the incredible honor of hosting Salvatore Giunta, the first living Medal of Honor recipient since the Vietnam War, at our Uniting in Service: Military Thriving Dallas event. His courage and selflessness in the face of danger exemplify the highest ideals of military service. On October 25, 2007, in Afghanistan’s Korengal Valley, then-Specialist Giunta risked his life to rescue a fellow soldier from enemy capture. Under heavy fire, he advanced on his own initiative, engaged the enemy, and provided lifesaving aid to his comrades. His extraordinary heroism reflects the very essence of what this day represents. Earlier this week, the Dallas CWE kicked off with an incredible networking reception hosted by the National Medal of Honor Museum. Leaders from across the nation, as well as local Dallas partners and military installations, gathered for an exclusive sneak preview of the Museum ahead of its grand opening next week. It was a powerful opportunity to witness how the NMOHM is preserving our nation's history and inspiring the next generation to serve. What an incredible day! The Military Thriving? Community-Wide Engagement (CWE) in Dallas was a huge success, it was amazing to see so many people come together for one purpose: to serve. From the early morning Circle of Remembrance and Community Run with wear blue: run to remember to the powerful leadership development sessions and hands-on service projects, the energy and commitment from our community were truly inspiring. This event is just the beginning of a nationwide effort to reshape the narrative around Veterans and their families by fostering a culture of service. A heartfelt thank you to everyone who joined us, whether as a participant, volunteer, or supporter.
