Zero Foodprint is Mobilizing the Food World Around Climate Solutions.
关于我们
Named “Humanitarian of the Year” by the James Beard Foundation, ZFP sees the food system as a major solution to global warming as well as a major cause. ZFP members crowd-fund grants for farmers to switch to renewable farming practices—proven to be the most impactful initiative yet towards solving global warming. Think of it like improving the grid—of food. Just a few cents from restaurant meals, in aggregate, can create acres and acres of healthy soil and shift us from the extractive “conventional” agricultural system to a renewable food system. In fact, healthy soil could sequester all the carbon humans emit every year if farmers and ranchers reduced tilling, applied compost, planted cover crops, and incorporated animal grazing—practices that improve soil health by increasing the amount of life in the soil. That biomass is also carbon coming out of the atmosphere. Unfortunately, today’s industrial food system subsidizes practices that degrade soil, release carbon, deplete nutrients, and mistreat animals and resources. Zero Foodprint was formerly known as The Perennial Farming Initiative.

Last week, we had the honor of hosting an amazing group of thinkers and do-ers, co-convened by The 11th Hour Project, OpenTEAM, Transformational Investing in Food Systems, and Madelynn Martiniere. As Samuel Oslund put it so well: "This?initiative?grew out of our efforts at 11th Hour Project to ensure technological innovation aligns with the needs of small scale, agroecological farmers. Given agroecology is so contextually specific we see that there is a need to?go upstream to see that farmers and farm workers not simply have access to technology, but have a stake in the way in which technology is developed and how resources are allocated around innovation. When it comes to innovative funding and community led finance we know that social justice organizations have been at the forefront of this thinking. As such we have been intentional about inviting folks from path breaking organizations like Potlikker Capital, Kitchen Table Advisors, and Manzanita Capital. From a governance perspective, we are equally excited to learn alongside innovative organizations, like Zero Foodprint, IndigiDAO, and Big Green DAO, which are developing technological, social, and legal protocols to drive a just transition." Check out the work of visual scribe Jenni Ottilie Keppler, which captures just a fraction of the exciting ideas and projects that were cultivated last week. Look for more from OpenTEAM and all the amazing folks who were a part of this convening in the coming months, and check out their website (https://lnkd.in/eZeTu6n) to learn how you can get involved!

Better farms, better food, better future ?? Snaps from our recent visit to a local farm supported by nonprofit organisation Zero Foodprint Asia (ZFPA), which aids local farmers in transitioning to regenerative agricultural practices that can improve soil health, produce more healthy and nutritious crops, and potentially promote carbon sequestration in soil over time. We are proud to be part of ZFPA’s 1% Pledge programme that helps to fund food-related climate solutions, and grateful to our diners for supporting our efforts to build a greener future. #WorldofCare #RegenerativeFarming #Sustainability #HyattHotels #HyattCentricHongKong #EveryActionCounts #ZeroFoodprintAsia

These trees—Cottonwoods, Mulberries, False Indigo, and Pears—have been growing for just one season, but the transformation is already visible. It’s the type of growth that makes you pause and reflect. In Colorado, here's what trees need to succeed: Earthworks, silvopasture, and water management systems to maximize water retention and soil health in these arid conditions. You can't just plant trees. You have to design for the entire ecosystems to thrive. At Metacarbon Farm, we’re seeing firsthand what’s possible when dryland restoration is done right. This land is exploding with life, and it’s only the beginning. It’s a testament to the power of dryland agroforestry and the impact of strategic earthworks in regions prone to drought. As we continue to monitor the progress, it’s exciting to envision how these ecosystems will not only enhance biodiversity but also sequester carbon, improve water retention, and create sustainable systems that future generations can rely on. We’re all about taking on the challenges of dryland restoration head-on and thanks to our partners at Boulder County Climate Innovation and Zero Foodprint, we were able to put this project into motion. In addition, as we continue to monitor the progress of our work, the Carbon Institute in California is funding data collection and analysis. Together, we’re not only studying the resilience and growth of these ecosystems but also exploring how they can contribute to local food production. This partnership enables us to dive deeper into regenerative practices that enhance both ecological health and food security. #DrylandRestoration #Agroecology #ClimateResilience #Silvopasture #WaterManagement #CarbonSequestration #RegenerativeAgriculture
