The average American throws out 4.9 pounds of trash daily, and much of it ends up in landfills. This year, let’s make a difference by clearing out our homes in ways that are kinder to the planet.? How to Responsibly Get Rid of Your Junk: ? Hire an Eco-Friendly Junk Hauler: ??- Look for companies with a 70-90% diversion rate (items recycled or donated).?? ??- Ask about their recycling and donation partnerships.?? ??- Confirm they’re licensed, insured, and handle e-waste responsibly.? ? Donate Usable Items: ??- Local nonprofits often accept furniture, clothes, books, and more.?? ??- Some organizations even offer pickup services—just ask!? ? Recycle Right:? ??- Use community recycling programs for paper, plastics, and metals.?? ??- Take electronics to certified e-waste recyclers (look for R2 or e-Stewards certification).? ? Sell or Give Away: ??- Sell items online via Facebook Marketplace, eBay, or Craigslist.?? ??- Join “buy nothing” groups or use Freecycle.org to give items a second life.? ?
