?? Today is the #SocialJusticeDay. It emphasises the importance of addressing issues such as poverty, exclusion, and gender inequality to promote fair and just societies. ? In the agricultural sector, women constitute a significant portion of the workforce, yet they often face systemic inequalities that hinder their access to resources, decision-making power, and economic opportunities. Empowering women in agriculture is not only a matter of social justice but also a strategic approach to enhancing food security and sustainable development. ?? ? ?? On this occasion, we are excited to launch the "Women driving change in agriculture" campaign. Through this initiative, we are interviewing representatives from companies that are part of the Zero Hunger Private Sector Pledge to understand how they are committed to empowering the women they work with and how their pledge addresses gender inequalities. ? ?? ?? The new Comprehensive Africa Agriculture Development Programme (CAADP CAADP) Strategy and Action Plan 2026-2035, endorsed by 55 African Union member states earlier this month in Kampala, marks an important step for the continent’s agrifood systems transformation. It moves away from the farmer and agricultural productivity towards a more holistic approach that addresses how food is produced, processed and distributed. ?? The new Strategy and Action Plan confronts two of the major challenges that have emerged in Africa over the past ten years: climate change and population growth. Among the targets there is also the integration of over 10 million small-scale farmers into agricultural value chains. ?? To understand how countries will achieve this ambitious framework, what actions need to be taken at the continental and national levels to implement the Kampala Declaration, and how regional entities, development agencies and government officials can work together, the Zero Hunger Coalition organised a webinar. ?? "Globally, powerful solutions are emerging by blending indigenous farming practices with modern agricultural innovations. Practices rooted in generations of local, context-specific knowledge gain even greater value when combined with advancements in methods, technology, and science. This integration tackles global challenges like population growth and environmental degradation while paving the way for stronger climate resilience and improved food security in an increasingly uncertain future."
