  • The Zephyr Foundation is pleased to announce an open call for the?Network Data Standard and Management Tools?Project Management Committee (PMC). We are seeking dedicated professionals from various sectors, including government/public agencies, academia, consultancies, and industry, who are passionate about advancing a General Modeling Network Specification (GMNS) and supporting tools to join our committee. ? Background: GMNS?is a community-driven effort under the Zephyr Foundation, aiming to develop and maintain an?open data standard?for travel model networks. GMNS’ goal is to create a uniform, human- and machine-readable format for sharing routable network files that works across various software platforms and regions.?Initial drafts of the GMNS specification have been developed through an initial PMC group, but the standard development has stalled a bit due to the need for supporting tools. ? At the same time, a number of agencies have been collaborating to develop?Network Wrangler, a Python library for managing travel model network scenarios; we envision this as a potential supportive tool for GMNS! ? Since both of these branches of work originate from similar goals, we anticipate that the PMC will endeavor to bring these two efforts together, to create a single ecosystem consisting of a data specification and network tools that use that standard. This will likely involve incremental changes to both?GMNS?and?Network Wrangler. ? We invite professionals with experience in transportation modeling, data standards, or related fields from government/public agencies, academia, consultancies, and industry to apply. Your contribution will help shape the future of transportation network modeling and ensure that GMNS continues to meet the needs of users around the globe. ? If you are interested in joining the GMNS Project Management Committee OR just following this project,?please fill out this short form https://lnkd.in/gVRK9yf2 ? -Lisa #gmns #GTFS #NetworkWrangler #datastandard

Exactly a week ago, during the 103rd Annual meeting of the Transportation Research Board #trbam, our own Pedro and Jan were present at the #ZephyrTransport reception to receive the 2024 #Zephie Award for Exceptional Technical Achievement on behalf of the AequilibraE development team. Pedro, our founding director and creator of AequilibraE said, "Being recognized by your peers at such an important stage is incredibly humbling, and it is difficult to elaborate beyond that". This prize also confirms the growing interest in high-performance open-source software that Jan and Pedro saw first-hand during TRB. 2024 is gearing up to be a brilliant year for #AequilibraE
