A metro Detroit school district is trying out a new approach to school safety — dog security teams. The partnership is meant to keep vapes, other drugs or weapons out of the district, said Superintendent Karl Paulson. This year the work is taking on a new aspect, with the dogs now trained to detect tobacco vapes, Paulson said. So far, the program has brought down the amount of drugs detected in Lakeview Public Schools, including middle and high schools. Reports dropped 15-20% between the 2022-23 and 2023-24 school years. No weapons were detected in either school year. That's a sign that the initiative is working as intended, Paulson said. https://lnkd.in/eJ9Ncaxj
