The ZTC Mission/Vision: To make a difference, every day, in our community by bringing hope in traumatic situations. We positively impact the lives of pediatric patients by providing new toys for all. Every day a deck of cards, a doll or a stuffed animal puts a smile on the face of a child who hasn’t smiled in quite some time. Zach’s Toy Chest donates toys, games, books and other items that help boost the spirits of patients of all ages. At ZTC, we look to continue our growth and in turn keep well-stocked toy chests to ensure that every patient has a gift for holidays, birthdays and most importantly, a little something to serve as a reward for their courage in fighting cancer and other critical illnesses. What a journey it has been... 17 years ago feels like both yesterday and a lifetime ago. The emotions, the fear, the fight—it all stays with you. But today, we are beyond grateful for a healthy, thriving teenager and the opportunity to give back. Through Zach’s Toy Chest, we’re dedicated to bringing joy, comfort, and support to families walking the difficult path of childhood cancer. No one should face it alone, and we are honored to play a part in making hospital stays a little brighter for these brave kids.
In the middle of our fantastically chaotic life, this milestone almost slipped by us... but we will never forget. 17 years ago this week, our world changed forever. At just 9 months old, Zach was diagnosed with stage 3 Neuroblastoma. Our happy, healthy baby—who had never even had an ear infection—suddenly had a grapefruit-sized tumor in his abdomen and was fighting for his life. ?? February 28, 2008—this was the last picture I took of Zach before our cancer journey began. The last moment he was just a "normal, healthy baby." Fast forward 17 years to today, and the second picture says it all. ? Zach is now a SENIOR in high school. ? He’s over 6 feet tall ?16.5 years cancer-free ? Funny and sarcastic in the best way ? Driving his dream car ?Athlete ?National Honor student and planning his FUTURE in college! But back then, we were just parents sitting in a hospital room, terrified. The last thing we should have had to worry about was how to keep our baby occupied and comforted during chemo, surgeries, and endless testing. But we did. We packed a bag of toys—because even in the scariest moments, Zach deserved a sense of joy, relief, and normalcy. ?? That simple act became the seed that grew into Zach's Toy Chest. Now, our family fills hospitals with new toys year-round so that no other parent has to think about this small but hugely important detail in the middle of a medical crisis. Toys are not just "extras"—they are a lifeline for kids fighting battles they should never have to face. ??? Toys bring comfort. Toys bring smiles. Toys bring HOPE. ??? And together, with our incredible community, we are FIGHTING CANCER ONE TOY AT A TIME! ?? Join us in making a difference. ?? Volunteer Spotlight: Meet Pam Seymour! ?? Today we celebrate an incredible member of our ZTC family who brings warmth and comfort to our young warriors through her handmade creations. Pam dedicates her time and talent to crafting beautiful pillowcases for children battling cancer. Her handmade items bring a personal touch of love and care to hospital rooms and homes. Just this year, Pam donated 30 handmade pillowcases and is continuing to make more! And last year, she donated an amazing 50 handmade pillowcases!
