For Hunger & Homelessness Awareness Week, our good friends at Souper Jenny and The Zadie Project have allowed us to station ourselves at their locations alongside other nonprofits they support to share our missions with others. Souper Jenny & The Zadie Project provide countless, delicious, and nourishing meals (usually in the form of yummy soup) to our underserved neighbors - including those we serve here at Zaban Paradies Center. And look who we bumped into! Most Valuable Kids (MVK) was there with our very own board member, Susan. Together and with the help of others, we've formed a network of care that's really something special. Not only did they donate an incredible amount of food and toiletry items to our cause - but they even volunteered their time to use those items to build bagged lunches and welcome kits for our residents and other program participants. For our?#unsheltered#neighbors, every day is Homeless Day. Established 40 years ago, Zaban Paradies Center (ZPC) is an independent 501(c)(3)?#nonprofitorganization?which operates the only emergency?#shelter?in?#Georgia?that accepts self-identifying?#couples?as they present and provides them a room of their own together. We’re proud to be one of just a handful of shelters in the United States that accepts couples. Due to the reality that almost all shelters and transitional?#housing?programs serve only?#families?with children or individuals separated by gender, couples experiencing?#homelessness?around the U.S. are regularly faced with a difficult decision: either remain together on the street, in their cars, or in other places not meant for habitation, or separate from their spouse/partner to accept shelter individually. This unfair decision very often ends up with couples remaining literally?#homeless?for many more months than they should, resulting in additional effects of?#trauma. Our team is focused on creating new opportunities for our residents and program participants to move into housing faster and remain stably housed with our support.
