关于我们

For over a hundred years, the YWCA Central Virginia has been serving the women, children, and families of Central Virginia. Founded in 1912 by a dedicated group of women, YWCA Central Virginia has grown and adapted to meet the varying needs of the communities we serve. YWCA Central Virginia serves seven counties and one city, an area of 4,400 square miles with a population of over 400,000 community members. We currently host three key direct service programs: Domestic Violence Prevention Program (DVPP); Sexual Assault Response Program (SARP); and the Town Center Women's Residential Housing Program.

  • Local agencies, like YWCA Central Virginia, who are providing life-saving services for victims of sexual assault, domestic violence, stalking, and trafficking are facing a financial crisis like we’ve never seen. Drastic and ongoing cuts to the federal Victims of Crime Act (VOCA) program has resulted in a $22.5 million dollar reduction in awards to Virginia in just the last 5 years (federal fiscal years 2020-2024). The portion of these funds that go to Virginia's 70+ sexual and domestic violence agencies, to ensure frontline, 24/7 crisis response to victims in communities, has been cut by a whopping 54%, or $13.5 million dollars, in the last 5 years alone. Several of our staff are in Richmond for Virginia Sexual and Domestic Violence Action Alliance's Day of Action. They are rallying for sustainable, robust funding for survivors! This year, we are asking policy leaders for $8.25 million in state funding that, when combined with current state funds and projected VOCA funds, will restore Virginia to a total of $27.75M/year for sexual and domestic violence services. Today, our staff are speaking face-to-face with state legislators to secure the vital resources necessary to #PUTVICTIMSFIRSTVA! #YWCAIsOnAMission #YWCACentralVirginia

Important Announcement: CEO Resignation We are announcing that our CEO, Stephanie Coleman (formerly Andrews) has made the decision to step down from her role at YWCA Central Virginia effective at the end of September. Over the past three and half years, Stephanie has been a driving force behind our mission, bringing passion, dedication, and transformative leadership to YWCA Central Virginia. During her tenure, she has helped to initiate and start new programming for our youth, planned and executed a successful Anniversary gala fundraiser, helped to plan and executive a forum where women voices were highlighted at our Raise the Vibrations & Voices event, was integral in the move of our Church Street Bridal location to their beautiful new storefront, developed new community partnerships and gained new funders and grant opportunities, and built a new relationship with Select Bank to partner together for our annual Purse & Passion fundraiser this year. Internally, through her dedication, we've seen a remarkable transformation in our organizational culture. Her emphasis on open communication and collaboration has not only strengthened team dynamics but also empowered everyone to contribute more effectively, truly living out our mission. Her mentorship has been invaluable to many, offering guidance, support, and opportunities for personal and professional growth. Her investment in the team's development has made a lasting impact on careers and lives. Her commitment to our cause has left a lasting legacy. We are deeply grateful for her contributions and wish her all the best as she moves on to her next chapter. As we begin the search for a new CEO, our Board of Directors and team will work diligently to ensure a seamless transition. We remain committed to our mission and will continue to serve our community with the same dedication and heart.
