What is Persimmon Pride? Persimmon is the orange pantone color of our YWCA brand. Internally, #PersimmonPride is more than a hashtag or mantra. It is a belief in the impact the YWCA team is having in our community. It's more than a saying. It is who we are and what we believe in. Happy anniversary, Kristin! We love your #PersimmonPride

关于我们
YWCA Northeast Indiana's Mission is to eliminate racism, empower women, and promote peace, justice, freedom, and dignity for all in Allen, DeKalb, Huntington, Noble, Wells, and Whitley Counties. We provide a full continuum of care for victims and potential victims of domestic violence - from prevention education to long-term support after the crisis. This includes our operation of Indiana's longest-serving domestic violence Crisis Shelter. We also provide support for the diverse immigrant and refugee communities in Northeast Indiana by providing classes such as Citizenship and English as a Second Language, as well as assistance connecting to local resources such as CANI's Energy Assistance Program.

What Does the Future Hold for Racial Justice? When we step back to look at the big picture, and also in the daily steps we take at YWCA, we do see progress towards our mission of “eliminating racism, empowering women, and promoting peace, justice, freedom, and dignity for all.” That progress still doesn’t seem to have put us very close to achieving those goals, though. Our community and our country’s progress can feel like one step forward and two steps back. Part of that is that no matter how bad things were in the past, when discrimination and exclusion occur they always cause hurt and damage. So, causing relatively less harm than in the past just still doesn’t seem very good. All this makes us think about how we as a community in Northeast Indiana can have a stronger impact. -What do we need as individuals? -What do we need as organizations? -What does our community need? “To God be the Glory, I love that this highlights people that are believed to be local celebrities. My ‘Aha!’ moment was realizing that I come from a background that would not naturally produce great outcomes for my life, however because of the belief of others in me I am able to stride in my community to make change and to believe in others as well!” -Cassius Stallings (Wellness Coordinator, HealthVisions Midwest of Fort Wayne) Read about other "Aha!" moments that have made local celebrities feel empowered: ywcanein.org/aha-campaign

“I think if you look closely, ‘Aha!’ moments happen all the time in life. One that comes to mind right now for me is learning how to remain true to myself and stay in my power, despite outside influences. Working in television, people have a lot of opinions about you. Your hair, your makeup, your style of reporting… the list goes on. I find that when I’m my genuine self, I’m the happiest and can perform at the highest level.” -Julian Teekaram (Anchor/Reporter, 21Alive WPTA) Read about other "Aha!" moments that have made local celebrities feel empowered: ywcanein.org/aha-campaign
