Dr. Helen Rodríguez-Trías was a trailblazing physician and public health advocate who dedicated her life to fighting for women’s reproductive rights. As the first Latina president of the American Public Health Association, she championed access to quality healthcare for women and children and led efforts to end forced sterilization. Her groundbreaking work in public health and AIDS advocacy earned her the Presidential Citizen’s Medal in 2001.
