This past Saturday, we were proud to host the Los Angeles Service Academy (LASA) for a tour at Yusen Terminals. LASA empowers high school juniors by introducing them to LA’s infrastructure and industries, preparing them to be the problem-solvers and visionaries of tomorrow. It was a pleasure to show these future leaders how the logistics industry impacts the city and beyond, and we look forward to supporting more students on their journey!

We had a very exciting Leadership Meeting last night, themed "The Butter Dish," highlighting the importance of the BCO (Beneficial Cargo Owner Customer Sector). We were honored to have Joelle Mertzel, founder of top-selling butter dish “Butterie,” share her journey of creating and patenting the product. She described how she built her business, grassroots style, by knocking on doors to get her product on store shelves. At YTI, we recognize three customer sectors: the Ocean Carrier, the BCO, and the Drayage Community. The message was about the importance of the customer’s product in the containers. Our relationship with Butterie and Joelle Mertzel began with a terminal tour back in January of this year. Joelle sent me a “Butterie” as a thank-you gift along with a handwritten note. That gift is now proudly displayed in the YTI “Display Cabinet”, marking the first piece of customer memorabilia to go on display. We want to send a huge thank you to Joelle Mertzel and her son Trevor for joining us, and for sharing her incredibly inspiring story with the YTI Team.

This weekend, we proudly sponsored the Float with the Flame event, benefiting the Special Olympics of Southern California. Our Rail Department Manager, Eric Martinez, and his family joined the festivities with Officer Stacy Creech, who introduced us to this great event through the Port Police. Officer Creech is a dedicated member of the Law Enforcement Torch Run (LETR) council and the Assistant State Director for the local program. Since its inception in 1981, LETR has raised over $2 billion, ensuring Special Olympics athletes can participate in events year-round at no cost. We’re honored to support such a meaningful cause and celebrate the remarkable achievements of these athletes.
