Co-founder/CEO of Eli - Continuous hormone monitoring for lifelong health

Eli Health has won the Digital Health Award at HLTH 2024 in the "Women’s Health Rising Star" category! Spotlight moments make up less than 0.1% of the journey, offering just a glimpse into the 99.9% of relentless work behind the scenes. For us, this meant thousands of iterations to bring real-time, continuous hormone insights to life. Up to 80% of women—and many men—experience hormonal imbalance symptoms. Eli makes checking hormone levels as easy as checking your temperature. With our Hormometer?, you can wake up to your cortisol or hormone score, just like your sleep score, and act daily on this data. We built Eli because we need this—and so do millions of others. If you’re one of them, join the waitlist here: https://eli.health Congrats to ōURA for winning "Best in Class" and to rising stars Origin and Aspivix. Big thanks to Brittany Barreto, Ph.D. for championing this category!

This weekend was incredible! I met over 7,000 strong, inspiring women at the first-ever U.S. marathon designed by and for women: Every Woman’s Marathon in Savannah, GA. On my flight to Savannah, I chatted with a woman who has run 40 marathons! ????♀? Yet, she was especially excited about this one. She shared that so many races are dominated by men and can feel intimidating. She was also there to cheer on her friend, who, after battling cancer and raising two kids, was making her marathon comeback. ?? I even had a brief, memorable conversation with Kathrine Switzer, the first woman to run the Boston Marathon with an official race number! ???? She told me she loved the rainbow of colors in the event’s design, calling it inclusive and joyful ????????????—a refreshing change for the running world. We spoke to so many more incredible women during this short trip. It was truly a celebration of strength, resilience, and sisterhood. Congratulations to everyone who finished 26.2 miles, especially the 43% first-time marathon runners, including our teammate and friend Yu Rong! It was an honor for Yung Studio to create the brand design system that represents the inclusivity and energy of the race, thanks to the trust of MilkPEP and GALE. ?????? ?? ???? I recently switched from Nike to HOKA for my daily workouts after hearing great reviews about their comfort. It took some time, but I finally made the leap! HOKA is one of the fastest-growing consumer brands, whose growth is moving at start-up-like velocity. The brand has literally grown almost 500x since it first launched. Their parent company, Deckers, bought the brand in 2012 for just over a million. And they’ll close 2024 with almost $2 billion in revenue, growing 30% YoY from last year. And they’re eating away at the big dogs, like Nike, who are seeing contraction, not growth, right now. Suffice to say Hoka is very disruptive in a category with serious legacy behemoths. But there’s a lot to learn from how they operate. Hoka’s start-up growth velocity is a big part of them functioning like a startup. They run tight innovation cycles, they stay close to their customers, they work across their different segments and cohorts to deliver the right products, they build community, they build great activations through run clubs, and they work with unexpected influencers and brand partners (think “Dude with Sign” instead of Michael Jordan). ??As a growing brand, your biggest constant will be change and your biggest weapon will be agility. If you can change quickly and deploy swiftly, that’s your best bet to take on juggernauts. Hoka is a case in point. They were servicing a VERY narrow niche with fabulous products when they launched – highly comfortable, technical shoes for technical trail runners. But they saw they could extend product, comfort, and design into other segments – all the way to the leisure fashion walker (yes, that’s a thing). Their whole thing is to “inspire people to find joy through movement – whether running, trail exploration, or everyday lifestyle and fashion needs.” It’s a framework that has allowed the brand to go to unexpected places and revenue numbers. It has allowed them to go much farther than niche trail running (specifically in France). So when we, at Yung Studio, work with start-ups, we never try to pin your brand down to a single, fixed idea. We work with you to create frameworks that unlock huge growth potential. It’s how you must operate in growth mode, if you want to run far, like really far.

?? ???? So cool to see our client Eli Health received the ?? Rising Star Award at The Digital Health Hub Foundation - Digital Health Awards for Women's Health category. What I love about working in these emerging spaces is collaborating with brilliant teams to translate advanced technology into accessible, often life-changing products—bringing them to people's hands quickly. Sometimes I forget, we as brand creatives from the sidelines, actually make an unseen but meaningful impact on people's lives as well. ?? Congrats Eli Health team!

Stance had sold over 36 million pairs of socks, raised over $115 million from investors, and partnered with the 3rd highest-grossing sports league in the world in the first 5 years of business. How do they do it? If you're an early-stage startup looking to build a community around your product, this memo is for you! ?? ?????????? ??????????????: ????????????

Studios should fail a lot more with their clients (just win 54% of the time) ???????????????????? ?? I find the least inspired work comes from a place of “I don’t want to lose.” I’ll never forget the first and only time a client fired us. Even though it was a relief (ultimately) for both sides of the table, it really stung and made me doubt a lot of things. But we learned so much in that engagement. Our biggest takeaway: you can’t play to lose. We were conservative in our positioning work. We obscured our own point of view throughout the process. We focused on trying to make the client think we were smart. We didn’t challenge the client. We were trying to minimize mistakes, instead of maximizing impact. I think a big part of that mindset is that the traditional agency world puts a lot of weight on polish, instead of provocation, probably to justify giant fees. Coming from the traditional agency world, I’ve seen so many over-designed, underwhelming decks intended to please, not push ideas. But the reality is, you can’t get to the big ideas, the bold designs, the breakthrough lines without completely missing. At Yung Studio, we think a lot about?the Roger Federer speech (https://lnkd.in/gFYPCebv), where he revealed he only won 54% of his points throughout his career. So yes, you can ultimately win a lot (and that should always be the goal, an ultimate win), but you should probably be losing a good amount too. What do I really mean by that? I don’t mean delivering total crap or nonsense to your clients. I mean hacking your way through the woods with entrepreneurs and founders in pursuit of the right ideas, knowing you’re going to make wrong turns. Making the work less about presentations and more about conversations. I mean asking raw questions, pushing people’s ideas, and challenging people’s positions. It means showing some shockingly unbeautiful plain-text slides, knowing it’s important to get a discussion going around an idea before it’s cemented. We’re ultimately very thankful we had that jarring loss with that client. We learned about who we are and we learned to fundamentally change how we work with clients. And now we play to win with our clients (knowing we’ll lose a few points along the way).
