March starts off with a bang ??as our legal team swept the table and secured several court victories today in multiple whistleblower-retaliation cases: ??Eight demurrers overruled ?? Bowman claim demurrers (separate cases) overruled ??Punitive damages demurrers overruled ?? Motions to Dismiss denied What does that mean? It means the Commonwealth of Virginia (our legislature and our Supreme Court) takes retaliation very seriously (especially in healthcare settings involving healthcare administrators and vulnerable populations). It means punitive damages are on the table. Why? To punish bad actors who retaliate against whistleblowers. The law in Virginia is clear on these matters. The Fourth Circuit denied rehearing and rehearing en banc this morning. So, our unanimous win stands! ???? For those interested in appellate and constitutional law practice, our case dealt with an evidentiary Daubert issue involving the admissibility of expert evidence in 5th Amendment Takings cases. The lower court excluded our client’s evidence and granted summary judgment to the company. We appealed and won, vacating the decision below. The company petitioned for rehearing and rehearing en banc, which was denied today. Our client’s happy! We’re happy! Attorney Christopher Collins was curious to see what McDonald's food tastes like in Italy. Mia was interested in McCafe. It didn't disappoint. They sell chicken wings (which are really good) in Rome's oldest location. The pastry selection is impressive! (You don't see that here.) You get an actual cup for your coffee (plus a giant croissant for about 10 cents more). The prices are very reasonable. And everything tastes great. The SuperBowl in New Orleans was a blowout this year and, for litigation attorney Christopher Collins, who coached soccer teams to several state championships, not nearly as eventful as cheering on U.S. soccer superstars Christian Pulisic and Yunus Musah at San Siro stadium in Milan. Chris was warmly welcomed by colleagues from Wales, Scotland, and Ireland who shared their love of rugby and their various perspectives on American law and economic foreign policy. (Many were actually quite supportive, and displayed tremendous respect for the U.S.) Rugby is one of the biggest sports in Wales, in case you were wondering. (Wales unfortunately lost to Italy in the Roma tournament, but England won their match against France in a nail-biter.) #sports #SuperBowl #lawyerlife
