Y STEM and Chess Inc. (YSC) is focused on resolving two current social problems, by providing a unique 21st Century methodology to learning called “Mastery.” The first focus is on our society’s unfulfilled need for students with a firm learning foundation to pursue a life in the world of STEM. The second and the primary focus of YSC is fulfilling those needs, by working with the children of our socially and economically underserved population, to introduce and engage them in the world of STEM. The goal is to provide students from this group the skills, knowledge, and opportunity to enter these career paths and assist in solving the critical shortage of STEM-skilled citizens. Our focus is on schools with a large percentage of students qualifying for free or reduced-cost lunch programs or that focus on the “at risk” student population. They are the “outliers” of our traditional education system both socially and economically. Students of this group are often rebellious, not because they are unable to learn but they respond to different learning approaches. The schools understand this and is why they are looking for alternative solutions to fulfill their “at-risk” student needs. We are looking for vibrant individuals that have an animated passion for STEM and want to share that joy with children from underserved backgrounds that are desperate for positive mentors. We offer to tutor in chess, mathematics, and Computer Science along with mentoring.

  • CONGRATULATIONS,?????? Matthew for delivering a touching Graduation Farewell Speech at Red Oak Elementary ?? BACK STORY of his amazing journey: From his Matthews Mother "Two years ago, we took our chance in transferring to Oak Park School District, Red Oak Elementary. It is a top-ranked school in Ventura County, Southern California. We weren't sure if he would be accepted; it was hard to get into this school. I called the admissions office and mentioned that Matthew is in the GATE (Gifted) Program. Admission was quick, and we had to accept the spot promptly. Four days later, we were on the freeway driving to Red Oak for his first day of school for 4th grade. (It takes about 30 minutes to get to his school. ) Since we never had the chance to have a full tour of the school (we just knew at that time that it was the top-ranked elementary school in Ventura County), we thought of searching online. We found a graduation ceremony of Red Oak that was uploaded to YouTube a few years ago. Matthew watched it, and a boy was delivering the graduation speech. Matthew said to me, "Mommy, wouldn't it be great if I got to deliver a speech during the 5th graduation, and my family, all of you, will get to watch me deliver a speech?" Then he continued, "Well, that's probably impossible. I am only a transferee in this school. I am a new student, and no one knows me. I know there are a lot of smart students there, and they might choose someone who has been there since kindergarten." Then I told him, "You'll never know... just do your best and ask God's guidance. Nothing is impossible. " Fast forward two years later,?today he was honored to deliver the Farewell Speech for Red Oak Graduation 2024!!! He was applauded three times while delivering his speech.?? It was an amazing, heartfelt speech that he delivered. His wishful?thinking came true! ? ?As I share this thought, it's making me a bit teary. Those 30-minute commutes to school were worth it. He had an amazing school year; he got elected to the Student Council, was one of the finalists for the Spelling Bee, won the school Yearbook cover design, and had another honor of writing a heartfelt message to his fellow schoolmates in the yearbook. Deep in my heart, I know and believe that God was so gracious that He guided and helped Matthew in this amazing journey.??" Congratulations, Matthew! ?? https://lnkd.in/guAAfHAT
