关于我们
Local non-profit, YMI - Youth Mentoring Initiative, has been serving the Fishers community, in partnership with Hamilton Southeastern Schools, since 2008. YMI partners with our schools to come alongside counselors, teachers, and parents by providing another caring adult to support and encourage the success of each student. YMI Mentors are adult volunteers that mentor once a week, for one hour, during the school day. Mentors meet one-on-one with students to provide them with a caring and consistent presence in their lives; become a reliable friend; a role model; and simply someone they can count on. Founded on the knowledge that kids need 4-6 non-parental adults supporting them through their developmental years, mentoring can have a profound impact on a child’s life! YMI mentors are a vital resource not only to HSE Schools initiatives to further the social and emotional well-being of their students but also to parents looking for additional support. Every week, approximately 300 mentors visit students in Fishers schools, offering encouragement and being an example of why Fishers continues to excel in the quest for a vibrant community! YMI mentoring is currently offered in the following nine schools: Fall Creek Intermediate, Fall Creek Junior High, Fishers Junior High, Fishers High School, Hamilton Southeastern Intermediate Junior High, Hamilton Southeastern High School, Riverside Intermediate, Riverside Junior High, Sand Creek Intermediate. YMI is changing the world, one student at a time.

YMI's Story of the Week: This week, we’re excited to introduce you to Rob and Zachary, a match from Hoosier Road Elementary. Rob, Zachary's mentor, brought in his drone this week for Zachary to fly. Zachary was able to fly Rob's drone with ease, as he said he's gotten lots of experience operating all sorts of RC vehicles at home. Besides being a pro behind the remote control, Zachary always looks forward to seeing Rob every week. "Rob and Zachary are a really strong match here," said YMI Campus Coordinator, Molly Allen. We can’t wait to see this match continue to develop in the future! For more information on how you can be part of the impact too, visit ymionline.org!

YMI continues to change the lives of students! This week we celebrate a YMI mentee at Fishers High School who will be achieving their goal to graduate after falling behind early in their high school career. This would have not been possible without their mentor, who they credited as their biggest supporter in meeting this milestone. You can make a difference too! Visit us at https://ymionline.org for more information on how you can make an impact.

Did you know that all mentees meet with a Campus Coordinator prior to being matched with a mentor? This week we’re welcoming a new mentee who was originally hesitant to participate because they thought it was duplicative of other services they received. Once learning more about the role a mentor plays, they couldn’t wait to sign up. We’re excited to see how this match grows!

It's goal setting time at YMI! Goal setting for YMI mentees helps them reach their potential by improving problem-solving skills, fostering belonging, and boosting self-confidence and motivation. Research shows that goal setting: ??Aids in planning actions to achieve goals ??Establishes priorities and direction ??Sharpens decision-making ??Provides a sense of past victories and motivation for present successes.

Shannon, the Campus Coordinator at Fall Creek Elementary, says she loves seeing how strong the connection is between Ryleigh and Yasmin after only being matched this school year. “They are so excited to see each other every week and wish their meeting time could be longer!” We can’t wait to see all that’s to come for this match!
