Betting on Self…A Time to Reflect on my Journey as an Entrepreneur in CRE Dear Family, Friends and Colleagues This month (March), I celebrate the milestone of my 2-year anniversary of “Betting on Self” through entrepreneurship as Managing Principal of PRI-O-LEAU Development Group, a full-service MBE within the Project & Construction Management Space. While my entrepreneurial journey with PDG started close to 15-years ago, the past 2-years included me leaving Corporate America and taking on efforts at PDG full-time. I left my director-level corporate job with mixed emotions. I left good money on the table. It was risky, but the risk of staying was much greater. Degrading mental health, plummeting physical health, zero energy for the people I love, living my life by someone else’s plan, not having an “equitable” seat at the table and being at the mercy of a need for validation. I was incredibly unhappy inside but smiling outside. I got tired of selling myself short. For me, it was a trade-off between passion & profit. The last couple of years as an entrepreneur have been a roller coaster ride of emotions, a test of resilience, and most importantly, self-reflection. A few years packed with some highs & some lows. Being in business for myself has made me question EVERYTHING, including my purpose in life. “Betting on Self” didn’t come without losses, entrepreneurship is hard AF! Some relationships were severed while others blossomed. While the circle may be smaller, I’m grateful for the new relationships and bonds that have been strengthened while on this ride. For those who share a similar journey of entrepreneurship or are in the midst of making?a difficult decision, I share this affirmation:?“Take the intentional step to live a life that’s your own. Destroy the notion that you have to be constantly working or grinding in order to be successful. Embrace the concept that rest, recovery and reflection are essential parts of progress towards a successful and ultimately a happy & healthy life” Blessings in 2025!
