Sometimes, the most memorable actions are creative ones. Youth Speaks is excited to announce a new partnership?with The Center for Story-based Strategy?to host a Sandbox session for?youth?(under 30)?to engage with case studies of effective use of points of intervention in creative direct action. Participants will reflect on dominant narratives challenging our movements and how to respond with creativity and?radical imagination. Most of you know Michelle Mush Lee as a phenomenal poet, writer, activist, mother, and illustrious boss-babe. We know her as so much more. On and off the stage, Mush has been the catalyst —?reimagining our organizational vision and transforming nearly 30 years of historic movement building, narrative strategies, and culture bearing into the version of Youth Speaks we have become since gaining her leadership. The foundational legacy Mush has built at Youth Speaks is nothing short of revolutionary. To begin the #SOCAP24 opening plenary, poets Ariana Lee?and?Kylan D.?performed an original poem addressing the effects of climate change across the globe and the need for systemic change to make a difference. The artistic delivery of their words underscores the power of young voices. Poets Lee?and?Denney?are each two-time members of the youth slam poetry team Meta4 Houston, which ranked number one in the world at Brave New Voices 2023. They are also members of?Youth Speaks, a leading presenter of Spoken Word performance, education, and youth development programs. ??
