Youth, Communities, and Democracy Thrive When We All Work Together for the Common Good
关于我们
Founded in 1986, Youth Service America believes that youth, communities, and democracy thrive when we all work together for the common good. We’re on a mission to make working together for the common good the common expectation and common experience of every young person. Even though youth participation rates are at or near record-high levels, we’re still leaving 3 of every 4 young people out, and participation rates are even lower among youth from underserved, historically excluded low-income communities and communities of color. YSA is working to change that. YSA activates young people, ages 5-25, to find their voice, take action, and acquire powerful civic and 21st Century skills as they solve problems facing their communities. Over the last 10 years, YSA’s campaigns & events engaged more than 3.2 million young people in service. YSA supports its activation campaigns & events with grants, training & resources, and recognition programs for young people and their adult partners. Youth-led projects use Awareness, Service, Advocacy, and Philanthropy (ASAP) strategies to change the world.

This week, I’m honored to be at the National Summer Learning Association Summer Learning Summit in DC, inspired by leaders across the country working to make summer learning accessible for all. With nearly 50% of families unable to afford summer programs, initiatives like the Summer for All Act are essential to ensure every child can benefit from these enriching experiences, regardless of background. Special thanks to Aaron Philip Dworkin and Brodrick Clarke from NSLA for their impactful leadership. I’m here to speak up for students who are eager to build service-learning into their summer experience - where they can make a difference while growing and connecting. Expanding service-learning in summer programs can play a key role in supporting mental health and building stronger, more connected communities. #SummerLearning #YouthEmpowerment #NSLA

How to reach young voters? "Because young people can be less likely to vote, [politicians] then allocate less resources to reaching them, which then is its own self-fulfilling prophecy," Senior Researcher Sara Suzuki tells Michigan Public Stream the full episode here: https://buff.ly/4eU0hhO

K-12 educators: Explore ways to get students more connected with school and engaged in learning through service-learning projects. Youth Service America (YSA), a leading global nonprofit that activates young people to find their voice, take action, and acquire powerful civic and 21st Century skills, and Arizona State University’s Mary Lou Fulton Teachers College?have collaborated to design a professional learning course on service-learning – and it's available online. Volunteering is declining and so is the number of Americans giving to charitable causes. We must do better. ????
The number of Americans giving to charity dropped after the Trump tax cuts, as the new rules reduced the itemization incentives for 90% of Americans. Today, charitable giving is dominated by the super wealthy. What happens to “the common good”, if fewer Americans are investing in health, education, human rights, human service, and the environment? Good news from Washington! ???????????? Americans have more in common than not, and one of our shared values is service and volunteering to help each other and ourselves.
We’d like to thank the bipartisan co-chairs of the National Service Congressional Caucus for their leadership on the Promoting Service through AmeriCorps Act.?Sponsored by Sen. Chris Coons, Sen. Bill Cassidy, Rep. Doris Matsui, and Rep. Garret Graves, this act will create more service opportunities, expand benefits to support recruitment and improve the member experience, and strengthen pathways to education and employment for all AmeriCorps members.
