In partnership with Youth Opportunities Unlimited and Greater Cleveland Habitat for Humanity, Building Great Futures is a paid, hands-on construction program. Open to 11th and 12th graders living in the city of Cleveland, the joint initiative provides a unique experience refurbishing a home for those in need. For 2024, eight teens spent the summer rehabbing two houses, learning crucial construction skills such as demolition, drilling, drywalling, painting and carpentry. Talk about a summer to remember! In partnership with our SYEP program, the robotics teams at the Great Lakes Science Center capped off their program by presenting their final projects. These youth specialize in coding, design and mechanical engineering. Many of them compete for their high school’s robotics teams. The youth spent the summer working for the Robotics Initiative — advancing their robotic skills, networking and helping to create a manual for future operations — while earning a paycheck and learning crucial teamwork and project management skills. Recently, 25 students completed our summer manufacturing program ?? In partnership with MAGNET: The Manufacturing Advocacy and Growth Network this paid summer academy offers hands-on learning in the manufacturing industry. The youth earned certifications, completed projects and visited partner companies. At the final ceremony, the tight-knit group even voted on awards such as Integrity, Funny Bone and MVP. Flashback to the incredible ASAE Annual Meeting last week, where 20 of our interns were able to attend thanks to Y.O.U. and Destination Cleveland. They got to hear from the keynote speaker and business professionals as well as enjoy a behind-the-scenes tour of the convention center and a visit to the exhibit hall. Youth Opportunities Unlimited was also honored to receive a contribution of over $15,000 from the ASAE Meeting Community Needs Initiative. Talk about a memorable day! Recently, Michael Hollins came and spoke to youth during an end-of-year celebration with Jobs for Ohio’s Graduates and Cleveland Peacemakers Alliance. A Cleveland native and Maple Heights HS alum, Mike journeyed from acclaimed athlete to inspirational speaker.
